The cabin "Four Oaks & One" is owned by Haywood & Gwen Hamlet from Phenix, Virginia.
The cabin built in 2001 was constructed from logs and tier poles from abandoned tobacco barns dating back to the 1930’s. One purpose for this dwelling is to give others an opportunity to remember and appreciate the beauty and strength of a lifestyle no longer in existence in Southside Virginia: growing and harvesting a tobacco crop. Haywood is the retired General Manager of the Virginia Dark-Fired Tobacco Marketing Association and a grower of flue-cured tobacco for 20 years.
Having the benefit of the cabin and its serene setting for entertaining is a delight that the owners take pleasure in along with friends and family. Birthday celebrations, wedding rehearsal dinners, potluck club meetings, Valentine’s Day Brunch, Christmas Cocktail parties, Easter gatherings, numerous cook-outs and bonfires are only a fractional listing of special events the cabin and its grounds has hosted.
Many tobacco relics and heirlooms decorate the quaint cabin interior. Add your name to the guestbook on the glass-topped wagon wheel table in front of the gas fireplace along with all the other overnight guests and special visitors that have utilized the kitchen, bath, lighthouse-themed bedroom and open loft area for rest and relaxation. Warm yourself by the fireplace as you sit on the hearth stone, which was moved to "Four Oaks & One" from the house of the owner’s great-grandparents. The home still sits on the family tobacco farm, now designated as a Century Farm: which the ownership has stayed in the same family for more than 100 years.
Time stands still while staying at "Four Oaks & One" cabin. Experience this step back into history for yourself.
